STICKEEN: an adventure with a dog and a glacier--in 1880 Temporarily out of print.
by John Muir.

Here is an "icy storm-story" of a little dog and a man on a wild Alaska glacier in the midst of raging weather, in peril of their lives. One admirer of this tale called it the world's "greatest dog classic". The encounter with the elements includes philosophical journeys that human minds tend to take under such stress. They were forced to cross a treacherous ice bridge over a crevasse; Muir says, "It was a tremendous necessity." Later he was to write, "I have known many dogs, and many a story I could tell of their wisdom and devotion; but to none do I owe so much as to Stickeen." Period engravings illustrate the text. 16 pages.
